Job Description:
The Community Outreach Volunteer is responsible for promoting the Racine Urban Garden Network and informing the Racine Community about RUGN’s education, events, and resources. This volunteer will need to regularly survey and interact with Racine’s members as well as the community at large, finding efficient and creative ways for RUGN to strengthen community ties, increase access to educational and gardening opportunities. The volunteer will work closely with the Education & Events Committee as well as the PR & Marketing Committee.
Typical Tasks:
- Seek out new ways to increase community engagement in community gardens
- Assist in providing information about RUGN opportunities and programs at various community venues.
- Distribute literature prepared internally by RUGN
- Assist with setting up multi-organization presentations, seminars, workshops, community fairs and community partnerships throughout Racine.
- Provide guidance to those seeking information about community gardening and RUGN’s services for themselves, a family member, or friend.
- Must be available some evenings and weekends
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Coordinate within RUGN organization and with the Racine community
- Practiced oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Detail oriented
- Strong time management skills
- Independently motivated
- Must be available some evenings and weekends
*Interest in urban gardening, farming or environmental stewardship desired
