Hours:            1-2 Hour Shifts, Flexible. Limited to hours the Racine Public Library is open.

 

Location:        75 Seventh St Racine, WI. The Racine Public Library is located on Lake Michigan in downtown Racine

 

Overview:      Shelf readers play an integral role in keeping the library’s collections organized so patrons and staff can easily find materials. Volunteer Shelf Readers scan the call numbers (printed on the spine labels) of a section of books in order to assure all books are in the correct place.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Volunteers will be assigned to a specific area in the library
  • In assigned area, volunteers are responsible for making sure the items are in the correct order using author’s last name or call number
  • Rearrange items as necessary

 

Qualifications:

  • Good attention to detail
  • Physically able to lift, stand, walk and stoop for 1-2 hours at a time
  • Ability to use alphabetic and numeral filing systems
  • Ability to work independently following training
  • Ability to interact well with staff
