Who We Are

The Senior Companion Program (SCP) was founded in 1978 to alleviate loneliness, enabling older adults in our community to live out their later years with hope, meaning and dignity.  There is no cost to be a part of SCP, we are funded on grants and private donations.  We do not provide medical or personal care, assistance with housekeeping, finances, cooking or any type of home, health or personal services.  We simply provide company and friendship to someone who is lonely-we believe that everyone deserves a friend!

What We Do

Our volunteers are matched with a SCP client, and they visit that same client every week for a minimum of one hour. These clients can be in private homes, senior apartments, assisted living facilities or nursing homes. Our volunteers and their companion usually find common ground quickly and their relationship grows from there!  Time can be spent visiting, playing a game, doing a craft or listening to music--the possibilities are endless!   It is important to remember that even though our clients are older now, they weren't always so-and they still have the same interests they've always had! Our clients held jobs, belonged to civic groups, had hobbies, were in the military, had families of their own, enjoyed traveling and music and more.  They have a lot of experiences to share and stories to tell. We believe that nobody should live out their later years feeling lonely and that everyone deserves a friend!
