Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility

Racine Youthful Correctional Facility is a facility which detains 450 male inmates, ages 15-24, who have been committed to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. We provide education, medical, psychological, and religious services. Our staff consists of social workers, nurses, psychologists, teachers, doctors, dentists, officers and administrative support. We daily face the challenges to assure a safe and secure environment for inmates, staff and community. The use of recreational activities (physical fitness, leagues, games etc), arts and crafts, class room aides,group facilitators/assistants, master gardeners/assistants, and instrument instructors allow for our staff and inmates to broaden their focus and abilities. These are areas where the volunteer assistance is always greatly needed. Volunteers are asked to provide what type of skill they possess when contacting the facility and we pair you up with the appropriate program.

We provide programming, work, and other constructive activities for inmates based on their needs and the degree to which such activities promote institution adjustment and/or their positive reintegration into the community upon release.We want to teach, model and reinforce positive change for inmates through all staff's daily interactions with inmates. We hope to form partnerships with the community through communication, information sharing, joint problem solving, and cooperation. RYOCF opened its doors to offenders on May 11, 1998. In this time we have provided services reintegrating inmates back into the community. With the help of the Volunteer Center of Racine and other volunteer services our inmates have successfully given back to their community. We look forward to a continued effort with the community to assist us with the education of our inmates and guiding them into a more positive direction.
