This afterschool program provides youth in Grades 9-12 academic support, leadership development, positive role models and recreational opportunities. As a result of participating in Young Leaders Academy, participants achieve success in core subjects (tests, grades, etc.), demonstrate positive school behavior, attend school regularly, and improve social functioning. In addition to Teen Achievers (Grades 2-5), the Young Leaders Academy also includes programming for elementary school students through the School Achievers program for Grades 2-5 and for middle school students through the Young Achievers program for Grades 6-8.
The Teen Achievers: This teen program for 9th – 12th graders prepares participants for college, providing college tours, collaboration with local businesses, and career exploration workshops. The Teen Achiever component takes place at the George Bray Neighborhood YMCA. Teen Achievers also receive a free YMCA membership. Up to 50 participants are served annually.
Students are referred to the program by their school teacher or school leadership; parents may also contact the Racine Family YMCA's Young Leaders Academy Coordinator to enroll their child.
