Who We Are
The Food Council wants to address food deserts and promote healthy living for all; inventory and map all food related services in greater Racine; find creative ways to bring accessibility of fresh fruits and vegetables to food deserts; support the GGR Schools Initiative in bringing in the 3rd and 6th grades health curriculum; encourage new programs like Mayor Dickert's "Parks to Produce" and Jonathan Delagrave "Work Force Green Space" which promotes free food; find ways to distribute food surplus and to compost food waste.
What We Do
Greater Racine Food Council was established June 2016 with a leader, steering committee, plenary council with teams to work on various areas of concern. The small group discussion results from the Pathways to Sustainability meeting centered on the issues of food justice, education, and security.
