Who We Are

Currently serving VISTAs are placed in organizations in Racine including the Racine County Workforce Development Center partnered with the Racine Public Library (with a focus on technical skills), Racine County Workforce Development Center (with a focus on veterans outreach), Higher Expectations of Racine County, John XXIII Educational Center, and Racine County UW-Extension. We are currently recruiting VISTAs for the Racine Vocational Ministry, Lakeside Curative Services, and the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin. VISTAs work within their organizations to build capacity and create sustainable tools and programs. VISTAs work to build communities by mobilizing local resources and giving people in poverty the tools they need to help themselves.

What We Do

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program designed to alleviate poverty. The focus of the UW Parkside VISTA Project is to build an educated workforce. While each VISTA is placed at separate organizations and is working towards different initiatives, collectively the VISTAs are working on complementary projects that assist low-income populations to achieve success in early literacy, primary and secondary school, higher education, and/or job training.
