BloodCenter of Wisconsin advances patient care by delivering life-saving solutions grounded in unparalleled medical and scientific expertise. Founded in 1947 by the Medical Society of Milwaukee County and the Milwaukee Hospital Council, the Junior League Blood Center, this not-for-profit blood bank opened its doors collecting approximately 10,000 units of blood. In 1957, the name was changed to "Milwaukee Blood Center" and governance was transferred to a community Board of Directors; that partnership with the community continues today.
