Volunteer: Assistant Facilitator for Peacemakers Workshops

Peace Learning Circles (PLC) is seeking Assistant Facilitators for the 2014-2015 school year. The assistant facilitators support and assist the lead facilitators. The assistant facilitators also lead two small break-out groups and help redirect the students to keep the day on schedule and running smoothly. The day is a fun-filled day, each one different from the last. There is satisfaction in knowing that you have made a difference to the students that could last a lifetime. A short training and a background check is required. The Peacemakers Workshop is designed for 4th grade students and up. It consists of a 5 hour workshop, with students attending as a field trip day. Students participate in experiential activities where the focus is on building positive relationship skills. Throughout the workshop day, students learn six "peace tools, non-violent alternatives, communication skills, explore feelings, inclusion, cooperation, and participate in team-building games. The facilitators take turns presenting the different skills at each workshop. Lead facilitators can also present the 1 hour boosters in the weeks following the workshops. The workshop is a fun-filled day, each one different from the previous. There is satisfaction in knowing that you have made a difference to the students that could last a lifetime. The bulk of the training will be observing and participating in the workshops, and presenting the skills as you feel comfortable with the program. A certain amount of energy, organization, and concentration is required to insure the day goes smoothly. There is a standard curriculum that is taught with each activity building on the previous one. Training provided as needed. This person will be a valuable team member with Peace Learning Circles as we expand our programs and vision for the community. This opportunity requires an organized and detail oriented person who is able to follow direction, is highly motivated, a visionary, flexible, and can work independently and in a small team. Training is provided as needed.

However, as funding within our schools continues to decline, there are ongoing challenges to fund the Peacemaker Workshops and school programs. The Fund Development Committee will address financial support through the development of a new fund development plan. The Fund Development Plan will include fee for services/programs; donations; fundraisers and grants. The Fund Development Committee will determine the meeting times as needed. Training is not required, however, experience in this area is helpful. We are looking for team players, that are responsible and responsive. In addition, enthusiasm, energy, creativity, and the desire to contribute talents, time, and expertise to further our mission is essential to the success of the committee.
