Answer 24 hour crisis line via mobile phone for victims of sexual assault, as well as respond to the hospital when a victim presents for a forensic exam. Provide crisis intervention, emotional support and referrals. Must be a good listener, empathetic, nonjudgmental and supportive. Also must be 18 years old and have access to a car or reliable transportation to respond to the hospital. Training provided. 1 day per month (24 hours)

With respect for each person's dignity and unique characteristics, the Senior Companion Program matches one of our volunteers with a client. That volunteer then visits the same person every week. Our volunteers and their companion usually find common ground quickly, and their relationship builds from there!

Volunteers might spend an hour in conversation; you might play a board or card game, do a puzzle, read aloud, watch a TV program, have a snack, listen to music, or do a craft.... the possibilities are endless.

We are looking for a few Veterans that would be willing to spend time with other Veterans who are on Hospice in the Racine and Kenosha area. We need you to visit multiple Veterans in the area and help with pining and recognition ceremonies. It is a great way to give a uplift to these Veterans in thier final journey.

Do you have 3 – 6 hours a month to offer? Would you like to make a difference in the life of a vulnerable individual? Please consider becoming a Volunteer Guardian – a person appointed by the Probate Court to make decisions for someone who is unable to do so for themselves. People who may need guardians include someone who has dementia, is developmentally disabled, is chronically mentally ill, or has suffered a brain injury. The role of the Volunteer Guardian is to advocate for, monitor, spend time with, and help the person in need. A guardian must be a Wisconsin resident, at least 21 years of age, complete an application, and pass a background disclosure.

The Stepping On Program is an interactive evidence-based falls prevention program aimed at educating older adults (60+) and building confidence in order to reduce and/or eliminate falls. Workshops focus on how strength and balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, vision and mobility are important in preventing falls. Workshops are 7 weeks long, meeting once a week for 2 hours. Lay Leaders must participate as a student in a 7-week class before becoming a Lay Leader. Are you a good listener, empathic, with strong communication skills? The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is looking for people interested in becoming a Volunteer Caregiver Support Group Facilitator. Volunteer Facilitators will co-lead the group with a Caregiver Support Specialist from the ADRC. Together, facilitators create a safe environment that allow caregivers to share their thoughts, feelings, challenges and ask questions regarding caregiving. The leaders strive to provide emotional support to group members and connect them with additional resources as needed. Volunteers can choose from several monthly groups both virtual and in person. Volunteers are needed for the Sip & Swipe tablet training program, a self-paced class for seniors on how to use a tablet or smart phone. Rest assured, you do not have to be an expert at technology! If you are familiar with how to use a tablet or smart phone and are friendly and patient, you have the skills we need! You will help guide learners through an on-screen tutorial and are there to encourage them as well as answer any questions. The class can be broken into 4, 1-hour lessens or 2, 2-hour lessons. The learners will go at their own pace and come for as many days or hours that they need to. Tablets are provided to the learners and coaches will be trained on the tutorial beforehand. Being a Gallery Greeter will also allow you to view the exhibitions and educate yourself on the American contemporary fine art craft collection that comprises the museums' focus.

Job Description: Gallery Greeters are friendly, possess good communication skills and are willing to interact with all types of museum goers. Duties will include greeting visitors, handing out literature if appropriate, and reminding visitors of the rules. Training required. Gallery Greeters should be able to stand or walk for a common two hour shift, and are capable of interacting with other people.

Racine Volunteer Advocates answer the 24-hour hotline and respond to Ascension-All Saints ER to provide support and information about resources to survivors of sexual assault. They take one 24-hour shift per month.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide seeks volunteers to provide free, in-person tax preparation assistance to those who need it most. Volunteers are needed weekdays, and at sites throughout Racine County.  Some experience with tax preparation and computer skills are needed for volunteer counselors preparing tax returns.  However, no experience or special skills are needed to serve as a client facilitator.

An orientation meeting for all new volunteers will be held in early November. Volunteers interested in tax preparation will need to attend a day-long introduction to tax software and tax law which will be held in December and a week-long training session takes place in early January. 

Tax returns are completed on weekdays, during February, March and early April. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a national program staffed by local volunteers that provides free preparation and electronic filing of tax returns to Racine County residents. This important service supports low- to moderate-income households and relies on volunteers to do its work.

Racine Friendship Clubhouse has an ongoing need for cooks in our Culinary Department. You would cook lunch for approximately 25 people, served at 11 am. No experience is required except to enjoy cooking a nourishing meal for a grateful, appreciative group.

The Clubhouse has a full kitchen, and supplies all the food and equipment, as well as provides a food prep and service assistant. The Clubhouse needs a cook on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

All volunteers are asked to complete a background check if coming in contact with residents.
Service Projects

Cleaning- even with routine cleaning the shelter can get messy. Volunteers can come in and help deep clean. Dusting trim, ceiling fans, wash windows, etc.
Organizing- volunteers can come in and help organize the donations that are kindly brought in from our generous community members. Sorting sizes, gender and types of clothing, putting food away (helping to make sure food is not expired and the food with approaching expiration dates are in the front)
Updating- volunteers can come in and repair areas in the building that are worn down from all the frequent use. From small projects such as replacing a dowel on the staircase to electrical, plastering and other large projects.
Painting or adopting a room- Just like your home the shelter gets outdated and needs updating. Volunteers can come in and paint an office, stairway or a room. Volunteers can also adopt a room, which includes painting, putting together furniture and organizing the room.
Yard work- individuals can volunteer to weed, plant and clean up the yard at the shelter. The children love to play in the yard, but it does get over run with weeds and brush.

Activities

Groups- volunteers can plan and put together a group to do with the children or adults in shelter. These groups could be teaching them how to cook or doing a craft project.
DIY crafts- individuals can put together crafts for staff or families to do on their own. This can be making valentines for Valentine’s Day or cooking kits for dinners.
Transportation-from time to time a resident may need a ride to job or doctor’s appointment in a neighboring county, volunteers could assist in getting them to these commitments.
Childcare-from time to time, a parent of a child will get a job (daycare is not yet arranged) or have to go to the ER, and has no family in the area to help with the children, volunteers can come in and do activities and watch children during groups or if parents need a break ONLY if parents are in the building.​

Each member of your group must Log in when they arrive. Our trained Site Staff will assist
you. If you plan on returning numerous times within a year, create a REGISTERED VOL file,

hours to garner dollars from certain grants…so you can see how important it is to gather
YOUR volunteer hours.

We allow volunteers under the age of 18 only if supervised by an adult (e.g. youth group leader, parent)

Volunteers must be sober and able to prioritize the needs of others before their own needs.

Volunteers must agree to a basic criminal background check and complete a three-hour orientation in their first month of volunteering. One-time volunteers and volunteer groups are exempt from this requirement.

The building interior needs to be completely renovated with new walls, ceiling, bathrooms, carpet, and much more to meet city health codes.

Gateway provides on-air reading of the Journal times to the homebound and blind.  Persons with clear vocal abilities are ideal readers. Tape materials to be played over the air for the visually impaired and homebound persons. Taping in the studio preferred (training provided), however will accept materials recorded at home of reader has good recorder.

Flexible as arranged - studio available 8 am to 3 pm. Must be 18 years or older. Theatrical, speakers and teachers make excellent readers. All training and equipment provided by Gateway.  Once trained you can be recorded from home.

First airing is at 10am and duplicated at Noon.  Reader will receive a free subscription to the Journal Times.

Burlington Volunteer Advocates respond to Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington and do not respond to the calls on the crisis line.  Burlington volunteers provide support and information about resources to survivors while they are at the hospital.  The time and duration of on call shifts in Burlington are flexible.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes is a nonpartisan nonprofit working across the Great Lakes region to protect our most precious resource: the fresh, clean, and natural waters of the Great Lakes. We are active in advocacy, volunteering, education, and research. One of the ways to advance our efforts is by becoming an Alliance Ambassador.

We give Ambassadors training about the Great Lakes and how best to advocate to protect them. Virtual meetings are held throughout the year where Ambassadors can learn from experts about Great Lakes topics like plastic pollution, invasive species, and water infrastructure. We also help Ambassadors build skills like public speaking and tabling.

This is a monumental undertaking and we are looking for TEAMMATES to make this vision a reality! Special Events are going to be hugely important to not only raise the funds necessary to care for the animals already in our program AND build a sanctuary, but also to reach more people in our community to help us do it!

Special Events Coordinators, under the direction of MPA's Special Events Team Lead, will plan and ensure the execution of special events/fundraising events throughout the year that are important for increasing awareness about our organization, the population of special needs/considerations animals we serve, and the important work we are doing for the animals of Southeast Wisconsin and are integral to raising the funds necessary to support that work.

Each MPA Special Events Coordinator will be responsible for (and must be able to commit to) creating/planning/leading/executing/managing/marketing at least 1 special event per year and will also assist the other MPA Special Events Coordinators with the events that they are leading.

Choose from one of our event ideas to take the lead of (that we're looking for a Special Events Coordinator to take charge of!) or use your imagination to create a new, fun event of your own creation that our supporters will want to attend and that will attract new people to come learn about our organization and engage them to be supporters themselves!

Special Events Coordinators will also be a part of the committee to plan a major annual organizational event.

At the discretion of the Special Events Lead, the Special Events Coordinators may be asked to attend Special Events Team meetings from time to time to share ideas, plan, and coordinate with the rest of the Special Events Team (your teammates!) to let them know what you are working on so you all can function as a team!

One of the general qualities we are looking for in any teammate in this rescue are those who are "Go-givers" - people who want to make a difference in the world and for others and know the greatest impact we make is usually not the work we are paid to do in our 9-5, but that what we choose to do because in our hearts, we want to make others' time on this planet easier and better! How our organization is structured requires that all volunteers be able to accept direction to produce cohesive messaging, vision, results, and practices consistent with that of the overall organization as a whole and then take that direction to lead in the execution of their piece of the organization. Individual must be able to follow through on their commitments. The Special Events Coordinator should be interested in planning parties, events, or just fun things to do and be in touch with what type of events would be fun, and engaging, for our supporters to attend so they do come out and support us at them (and so we draw in new supporters)! Our vision is for Southeast Wisconsin to be one of the safest communities in the United States for companion animals. While our organization is proudly No Kill (and always has been since day 1), our community (and many of the "shelters" in it) is NOT No Kill. We can’t achieve our vision until the community as a whole becomes No Kill. TheLead Community Outreach Volunteer is going to play an integral role towards this end as 3 components of the No Kill Equation (TNR support, Low/no cost spay/neuter, and Pet Retention [education] - which are also components of our organization’s mission) will be pillars in the work they do.

The Lead Community Outreach Volunteer is a leadership role and the individual will be an ambassador of the MPA organization, creating a community - both internal and external - that emphasizes the important work we do for the special animals we serve and exemplifies how each volunteer’s active involvement helps us achieve more for more precious lives. Our leadership volunteers each manage one piece of the organization. Our leadership volunteers together (the Leadership Team) orchestrate an amazing whole doing great works in our community...and our world! The Lead Community Outreach Volunteer must be outgoing, ambitious, personable, enjoy cultivating and building relationships, and be able to dream big to create and manage programming that currently does not exist in our community but is necessary to save countless lives and reach No Kill status in our region. The Lead Community Outreach Volunteer should also be enthusiastic and excited to inspire and motivate both the Community Outreach Coordinator volunteers they are managing, as well as the community members, businesses, and leaders we will be partnering with to achieve our work and those we will serve with it.

Community. It’s one of our core values. A pillar of Milwaukee Pets Alive. Social media is nice, but there has to be more than that. It may be how we learn about things, but it’s not where we make true connections. And many don’t use, or are ceasing to use social media. We miss out on reaching those people with our important work if everything is online. We’ve got to get face to face with people.

That’s where we can do more, and do better for our animals and the people that love them. We have a wealth and wide breadth of knowledge to share - and want to help others with it. We’ve been rescuing animals with special needs and considerations for almost a decade - animals that many turn from, but we run to. As such, we have experiences others don’t have and want to share what we’ve learned to help people with challenges they may be experiencing. We also believe in the adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Education, knowledge, and wisdom shared can go a long ways towards that end.

Face to face is also the way others can help us do better for those animals who have no one - the abused, neglected, and abandoned. The injured, the ill, the differently-abled. The shy, the scared, the under-socialized. And the un-socialized who should never enter the shelter system, but when they all-too-often do, today, they meet certain death. They would have no one...if they didn’t have MPA. We are doing what no one else does in our community (and will have the capability to do so much more with a sanctuary!) - filling a very important void.

We can help people help the animals that they love, and they can help us and the animals we serve when they learn about the important work we’re doing in our community. This starts with building relationships. All relationships start with a conversation.

We need a lot more active supporters, and there are so many people that need guidance with their own animals and those they share this world with (and helping people help their animals keeps animals out of the shelter system - it’s part of the No Kill Equation)! We want to regularly meet and talk with more of our community members! It can be hard to ask questions...and some feel shy just walking up to a table to seek information or see what’s going on, so we have the perfect solution: a combination vegan bake sale/talk table! It’s our non-melty version of an ice cream social. Our current supporters LOVE baking for bake sales, and people can’t resist checking out the variety of homemade goodies - the perfect ice-breaker to create new supporters, and hear people’s stories opening a door to how we might be able to help them help their animals, too! It's baking with a purpose, y'all!

Why a "vegan" bake sale? Because we care about all the animals (and people) we share this world with. We serve a population of carnivorous animals (we rescue mostly cats and dogs), but humans are not carnivores (take a look at your teeth, and then compare them to your cat or dog). Humans do not need to eat animals or their by-products. In talking to and getting to know more people in our community, we want to take the opportunity to introduce them to the deliciousness, and kindess, of eating vegan - and there is no more tasty introduction than vegan sweet treats! *Please note, while the baked goods we will be selling at these sales will be vegan, our Bake Sale Coordinators do not need to be vegan. But once you are able to see, and taste, how awesome vegan goodies are (and that anything can be made vegan) don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to go vegan yourself!

We’re looking for SIX Vegan Bake Sale/Talk Table Coordinators as part of our Marketing Team (please note, YOU do not need to be vegan. The goodies we sell will be vegan. But you just may want to become plant-based after heading up a bake-sale where all the deliciousness is made from plants!). Each Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating 2 Vegan Bake Sale/Talk Tables with an interested host business every year (so when we are fully staffed with 6 Coordinators, we will be able to hold a Vegan Bake Sale/Talk Table every month!), coordinating enough volunteers to bake for their sales and the drop off of their baked goods, setup, staffing the sale (taking payment for baked goods sold, greeting people, talking about the organization, etc.), and tear down of the sale. We’ll have experienced animal care volunteers present to answer questions from people that stop by the sale. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn from the best on animal care, behavior, and advocacy.

We were so excited about all the outreach we can accomplish in this role that we forgot to mention that these bake sales will also generate much needed donations to care for the special population of animals we serve as well as help fund the sanctuary we are working to build!

Our leadership volunteers each manage one piece of the organization. Our leadership volunteers together (the Leadership Team) orchestrate an amazing whole doing great works in our community...and our world! The Marketing Lead must enjoy working with and speaking to people as well as cultivating and developing the talents of others! Marketing gets animals home (and will help us get in front of the people we need to build this sanctuary!) and is a pillar to the success of our work.

The Lead Marketing Volunteer will:

We are looking for volunteers from churches, organizations, companies and or individuals to Adopt A Room at HALO.  No experience necessary, just a willingness to help.

Adopt a Room may include, but is not limited to, cleaning and painting a room.  If you want to completely redecorate a sleeping room you can do so with pillows and twin bedding. HALO supplies paint and supplies.

 HALO relies on our community meal makers to prepare meals and serve them to our clients.  Get a group together and either buy and prepare food off site, or visit us in advance to see what might be in our pantry to prepare a meal .  Either way, you will put smiles on many faces by interacting with our clients and serving them a meal.  You can serve a meal to both sides of the shelter, or only one side. We have a commercial kitchen, and dining room on each side. The REC is seeking people interested in leading children ages 9-16 through 2 hour outdoor curriculum focused on environmental issues. The volunteers would be teaching small classes topics including: wetland conservation, bat monitoring, canoeing, kayaking, geo-caching, herpetology, vermi-composting, plant identification, and wild-crafting. These courses have been developed by expe ... The REC would like volunteers to go through the curriculum and observe one class to ensure that they feel comfortable with the material and their environs.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping out immediately at our Marquette Garden at 734 S Marquette St, Racine, WI 53403. You may keep any hours, but we need help preparing the plots to be planted for the food banks and then planting and maintaining the garden area after that. It is a full square block, so we are looking for as much help as we can get!

Racine Habitat for Humanity is looking for people who like to restore old homes and/or build new ones. We also partake in demolition and deconstruction. This job requires the ability to work with a variety of volunteers. Handy people, carpenters, painters, and landscapers are all needed. No experience is needed.

Daytime hours Monday-Friday are from 8am-noon and Saturday from 9am-noon. 

Must be at least 16 years old to be on a construction site and 18 years or older to use power tools.

This is a Board member opportunity. The Root River Council is in need of an experience treasurer.  We meet the second Wednesday of each month at the Racine Public Library, from 6:30pm to 8:30.

Root River Council is looking to expand current activities.  We are seeking to add New Board Members to generate new ideas.  If you are familiar with the Root River and the many environmental aspects, join our Board. 

Answer 24 hour crisis line via mobile phone for victims of sexual assault, as well as respond to the hospital when a victim presents for a forensic exam. Provide crisis intervention, emotional support and referrals. Must be a good listener, empathetic, nonjudgmental and supportive. Also must be 18 years old and have access to a car or reliable transportation to respond to the hospital. Training provided. 1 day per month (24 hours)

One of the primary purposes of Our Harmony Club is to provide respite care for caregivers.  Respite care offers rest for caregivers and gives those individuals time for themselves.   During the 6 hours while their loved one is at club, they are able to go grocery shopping, spend time with friends, or just do nothing.  That break is critical for them as it enables them to rejuvenate and refresh from the stresses associated with being a caregiver.

With the exception of the Director, the program is 97% run by volunteers.  These individuals are the foundation and backbone of our organization.  These individuals are generally retired people from our community who want to give back while having fun and making a difference in the lives of others.  They interact with our clients by assisting with crafts and games, taking part in conversations, and just being their friend for the day.  Other volunteers will lead games and exercises while others will help in the kitchen preparing meals and snacks.  Our program would not be possible if it were not for the countless people who dedicate their time every month at Our Harmony Club. 

A day at Our Harmony Club consists of up to 6 hours of respite for the caregiver, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as an arraignment volunteer at the Kenosha Courthouse. 

As an arraignment volunteer, you will be expected to attend hearings at the courthouse from 1PM Monday-Friday. You will have the flexibility to choose which days you are available to volunteer.

You will also be responsible for taking notes during the hearings and helping us to reach clients more efficiently. Strong communication skills and a desire to help others are essential qualities for this role.

This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in law or social justice to make a difference in their community. If you are passionate about helping others and have a desire to learn more about the legal system, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Our organization consists of a core group of experienced boat builders who will train volunteers to lead sessions in boat building.

Key requirements for volunteers are an interest in helping students learn practical skills and exploring avenues they maybe interested in pursuing as adults. Each class session includes a brief lesson of the day, safety reminders followed by a group work period. A certified teacher is always present in the area. Volunteers have included retired teachers, engineers, business professionals, skilled labor workers and college students. No previous boat building skills are required, but the client base you will be working with are students are youth and mentally handicapped adults.

A commitment of 3 to 5 hours per week for the school years is desired.

We are looking for a volunteer to organize and lead a monthly game event for our interested seniors! Card games, board games, Bingo, Wii games - you name it! Come and play games with our residents! If you love to play card games, board games, etc. we are looking for you!

Friendly, compassionate volunteers to drive a neighborhood route delivering hot meals between 11:00 and 1:00, one day per week to homebound senior citizens. Teams of drivers from companies, churches or organizations are welcome to "adopt" a route on a specific day. Reliable car, license and car insurance required. Mileage stipend paid quarterly.

Litter Squad Clean-Up 

Bi-weekly Community Cleanups of the uptown Art, BIZ and Culture District,

assisting in the beautification of the heart of the city.

Whether you love to knit or crochet, volunteers are always needed to make items to donate to RUSD or homeless shelters or anyone in need.  Items can be dropped off directly at your local shelters or RUSD Central Office or at Sew n Save in Racine.  From there, they will be donated to places in need.

Volunteer Position Description

Position:      Toy Cleaning in the Early Learning Experience Center area and other
                       locations that need to be cleaned in the Adult Department and the
                       Youth Services Department. Other responsibilities might be added.

Hours:          2 Hour Shift, flexible. Limited to Friday mornings while the Library
                      is closed, but schedule can be arranged.

Location:     75 Seventh St. Racine, WI. The Racine Public Library is located on Lake
                      Michigan in downtown Racine.

Overview:   It is critical for any departments in the library to be maintained as
                      clean and organized. The Early Learning Experience Center, in
                      particular is a very popular area and it is used heavily every day by
                      young children.  

Responsibilities:
       (1) Volunteers will be assigned to a specific area in the library.
       (2) In assigned area, volunteers are responsible for items (like toys), and other   
             furniture (like shelving units) are cleaned and organized.

Qualifications:
        (1) Physically able to lift, stand, walk and stoop for 2 hours at a time
        (2) Ability to work independently following training
        (3) Ability to interact well with staff

Overview:      Shelf readers play an integral role in keeping the library’s collections organized so patrons and staff can easily find materials. Volunteer Shelf Readers scan the call numbers (printed on the spine labels) of a section of books in order to assure all books are in the correct place.

 This is a  group of volunteer that support library programing.  Volunteers are needed to do various assignments around the library.  To become part of this group go the library web page to contact  FriendsRacine@gmail.com 

Angel Gowns are burial outfits that are provided to grieving parents in the hospitals after they lose a baby. Volunteers are needed to donate their wedding dresses and/or their time to deconstruct these dresses and create beautiful angel gowns for these grieving parents. With your help, we would like to provide these gowns to hospitals in our area. If you cannot donate your time to this cause, please consider donating fabrics, laces, ribbons or trims suitable for these gowns. Patterns can be provided to anyone willing to sew.

Canvas neighborhoods to offer program to prospective participants. Prepare and facilitate children's activities for the scheduled meeting day. Make sure the meeting space is prepped, cleaned, and stocked with supplies before and after each event. Shut down and locked up properly after each event. Background checks will be required for all volunteer applicants.
