Shelving library books and doing other projects in the library throughout the school year. Tuesday afternoons 11.45 - 2.00 or Wednesday mornings 8.15 - 10.15 every other week. Willing to learn the library numbering system and alphabetizing.

Assist chairside with volunteer dentists. Dental assistance experience preferred. 1/2 day a month.

Dental hygienist needed 1/2 day per month to provide services to low income, uninsured residents of Racine County. Dental Hygienist.

Tutors needed to act as role models for inmates. Interact one-on-one and/or support groups with inmates within the prison setting. Should be confident, a good communicator and non-judgmental. Flexible, must be 18 years or older. Must provide some personal info and submit background check. Must also attend volunteer training.

An opportunity to show off our dogs at their cutest. Creature Comforts of Racine County has Doggie Fashion Shop three to four time a year. Show are held at various local nursing homes. This is a good chance to make a lot of seniors smile. They really love these shows. Please contact Barb Hugier for details on the next show date. Dogs must be friendly. We visit with seniors after the show. Must have 3 to 4 outfits. Fashion type outfits preferred over Halloween type outfits. All shows are Sunday afternoons - Sign up in advance required.

Creature Comforts of Racine County does one hour visits to local senior clubs, assisted living homes, and nursing homes. We have people of all ages, pets of all sizes. We also have other activities that are on going. "Classroom Pet" program. One hour visits in schools. We can join in the July 4th parade in Union Grove, or the Festival of Trees parade in Racine. At Christmas, we have the 4-Legged Santa, where we do one hour mini dog shows. There is the Pedet group that does one hour dog trick shows, once a month in different nursing homes. Also "Doggie Fashion Shows." Four per year, at different nursing home locations. The elderly love kids, so age is not a problem. Under 18 must have an adult with. Volunteers must have control of their pets. All dogs require an obedience certificate from any dog school. A CGC certificate is a great bonus to make the insurance company happy. Pets should enjoy visiting with strangers.

The DeKoven Center is a full-service retreat and conference center located on a 20 acre wooded campus on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our historic campus is always in need of updating and repair. The DeKoven Center is a not-for-profit retreat and conference center located on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our historic buildings and grounds are always in need of minor projects and repairs. Gardening, painting, and minor carpentry projects are just a few of the opportunities that the DeKoven Center has available.

Assist the Master Gardeners in maintaining the DeKoven Center's gardens. Gardeners meet every Thursday morning.

Transport veterans to and from VA hospital in Milwaukee and the VA Clinic in Union Grove using the DAV van. Need to pass physical, background check and have good driving record. Orientation of routes 7 driver refresher course is provided. One day per week preferred, substitute drivers also needed. Drivers refresher course required and paid for by DAV. Must be 18 years or older.

Background in art. Good organization skills and an ability to work well with youth. Flexible as arranged with Director. Must be 18 years or older.

Assist youth with daily homework assignments. Training provided. Two hours per week, September - June Must be 18 years or older.

Willing to work with youth in tasks relative to serving lunch. Mon-Fri 11.30 am-1.30pm during the summer. During the school year assist in hot meal program after school 3.30-4.30 pm. Must be 13 years or older.

Tutor for remedial math. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division/fractions. Thursdays 2-3.30 pm - starts mid June through the summer. Must be 18 years or older.

Tutor, work with children in the library and assist girls'drill team (ages 9-14) After school, weekdays 3-5.30 pm.

BloodCenter Cafe volunteers serve a priceless link to the gift of life at our donor centers. They serve as ambassadors for BloodCenter by greeting our donors, serving them refreshments, monitoring them for post-donation reactions, and keeping our cafe areas clean and stocked. Our volunteers play a very important role in blood donation process. Flexible time - varies. Must be 17 years or older.

Volunteers are needed to support community blood drives in the Racine Community. Drives are held at high schools, churches, companies, etc. Help by serving refreshments after donors donate the gift of life - a unit of blood; or help donors through the donation process This is an opportunity to help patients in your community receive the precious gift of life. All volunteers must be 17+ years of age, have great customer service skills, able to stand for lengthy periods of time and enjoy being with people.

Many hospice volunteer find it personally gratifying to assist those in need at a critical point in their lives. Hospice Volunteer provide support for patients and their families. Support for patients: This can include companionship, reading, taking walks, writing letters, listening to music, and other activities. Support for family: Volunteers can assist with shopping and other errands, or you can stay with the patient to give family caregivers a break for the demands of care giving. Family members also appreciate a visit from compassionate volunteers. Support for staff: Volunteers can assist with copying, filing and other office activities. Bereavement support: Hospice volunteer work closely with the professional bereavement staff. They can assist with support groups and help with mailings and phone calls to clients and families. Volunteer needed to facilitate art and craft groups with seniors from start to finish. Several examples of projects include teaching/leading scrapbooking, stamping, sewing, soap making, mosaics, knitting or painting. Programs are scheduled as needed in either the morning or afternoon. Must be 14 years of age or older. Requirements include ability to read, comprehend, write and speak in English and enjoy working with seniors. Must be willing to help and instruct residents in the assembly of art/craft items.

We need a lead person to organize a discussion group. The group will meet 30 minutes to an hour and discuss local and national news. Facilitator must be able to lead a group of elderly into good discussion and not give own political views. Must like working with the elderly. Able to speak clearly and articulate words.

Do you love to travel? Share your travel experiences with our residents. Bring in your slide programs, powerpoints, photographs or video of your travels. Must be comfortable working with the elderly.

Looking for a new activity for your youth/church group? Start a Saturday or Sunday outing with your group or friends to read stories to residents or just visit for coffee.

Do you like to visit with seniors? We are looking for someone to assist and encourage senior residents with card games. It is a great opportunity to visit with wonderful seniors. Hours of opportunity: Monday - Sunday 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 1:00-4:00 p.m. Must be reliable and 14 years or older.

Ability to care for children.

Must be non-judgmental and friendly. Visits lasts about 15-20 minutes.

RACINE ? The Nearly Naked 5K run/walk is scheduled for Dec. 13. The event is a clothing drive ? participants should start the race wearing as many pieces of clothing as possible. At each kilometer, runners will discard a piece (or pieces) of clothing, which will be donated to the Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization. The run starts at 10 a.m. at John?s Dock, 303 Dodge St. Every participant registered before Dec. 1 will receive a custom finisher?s medal, hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants and cold brew for the post-race party at John?s Dock. Registration until Sept. 28 is $50; between Sept. 29 and Nov. 16, the registration cost is $55. After Nov. 16, if spots are still available, registration will be $60. The purpose of this run is to acquire clothing donations for HALO. This organization has many needs with men?s and women?s business attire, underwear and socks at the top of the list. In an effort to get HALO what they need, there will be prizes to the best dressed male and female and also to the best dressed team. In addition, there will be raffle tickets for each package of new underwear and socks donated. Online registration is available at www.nearlynaked5k.com. This run is ?nearly? naked. Participants are encouraged to have fun with clothing choices; however, running fully nude will not be permitted. We need 14 volunteers to help manage the route and collect clothing on the day of the vent. Volunteers should arrive no later than 9:30 and dress for the outdoors.
