Bi-weekly Community Cleanups of the uptown Art, BIZ and Culture District,

assisting in the beautification of the heart of the city.

Why:  Nature boy initially inspired to help clean up his family's hometown of Acatenango, Guatemala.

Whether you love to knit or crochet, volunteers are always needed to make items to donate to RUSD or homeless shelters or anyone in need.  Items can be dropped off directly at your local shelters or RUSD Central Office or at Sew n Save in Racine.  From there, they will be donated to places in need.

Volunteer Position Description

Position:      Toy Cleaning in the Early Learning Experience Center area and other
                       locations that need to be cleaned in the Adult Department and the
                       Youth Services Department. Other responsibilities might be added.

Hours:          2 Hour Shift, flexible. Limited to Friday mornings while the Library
                      is closed, but schedule can be arranged.

Location:     75 Seventh St. Racine, WI. The Racine Public Library is located on Lake
                      Michigan in downtown Racine.

Overview:   It is critical for any departments in the library to be maintained as
                      clean and organized. The Early Learning Experience Center, in
                      particular is a very popular area and it is used heavily every day by
                      young children.  

Responsibilities:
       (1) Volunteers will be assigned to a specific area in the library.
       (2) In assigned area, volunteers are responsible for items (like toys), and other   
             furniture (like shelving units) are cleaned and organized.

Qualifications:
        (1) Physically able to lift, stand, walk and stoop for 2 hours at a time
        (2) Ability to work independently following training
        (3) Ability to interact well with staff

Overview:      Shelf readers play an integral role in keeping the library’s collections organized so patrons and staff can easily find materials. Volunteer Shelf Readers scan the call numbers (printed on the spine labels) of a section of books in order to assure all books are in the correct place.

Angel Gowns are burial outfits that are provided to grieving parents in the hospitals after they lose a baby. Volunteers are needed to donate their wedding dresses and/or their time to deconstruct these dresses and create beautiful angel gowns for these grieving parents. With your help, we would like to provide these gowns to hospitals in our area. If you cannot donate your time to this cause, please consider donating fabrics, laces, ribbons or trims suitable for these gowns. Patterns can be provided to anyone willing to sew.

Canvas neighborhoods to offer program to prospective participants. Prepare and facilitate children's activities for the scheduled meeting day. Make sure the meeting space is prepped, cleaned, and stocked with supplies before and after each event. Shut down and locked up properly after each event. Background checks will be required for all volunteer applicants.

Seasonal: We are looking for someone to do general yard work. We have a very small yard (green space). The children enjoy playing in the yard but are unable to do so when the grass is long. The residents also enjoy sitting outside with the children for respite. We have a nice flower bed in the back yard and in front of the building. The work would involve mowing the lawn and weeding the flower beds.

Volunteers are needed for the general upkeep of the building. There are opportunities to do small maintenance work such as; painting, replacing ceiling tiles, caulking, repairing leaky faucets, changing fluorescent lights, replacing closet doors, wall plates, door stops and other general maintenance projects as needed. Flexible! We ask that you have some previous experience in the above volunteer opportunities.

Bethany Apartments has 12 apartments (1, 2, and 3 bedrooms). Before a family moves in we want the apartment to be completely "ready"; this includes moving furniture, cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, touch up painting, assembling dishes, bed linens, and other household items. We are in need of volunteers to help on an "as needed basis" The time needed would range from 1- 2 hours. This is an "as needed" duty. Must be 18 years or older.

Seno K/RLT Conservancy is seeking volunteers to work with both the education committee members and staff to help run educational programs both at our Seno Woodland Center in Burlington and throughout Racine and Kenosha county's parks and our conservation subdivisions. We are looking for people with a vested interest in environmental and natural resources education and that love working with children and adults of all ages! All programs and field trips will involve volunteer training days to ensure all volunteers are properly equipped to help run the program and feel confident in their role. If you have a passion for education, we want your help to achieve our vision of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between the land the water and the people!

The Wisconsin Humane Society Racine Campus relies on volunteers for support across our entire shelter. On any given day, you’re likely to find volunteers walking dogs, facilitating adoptions, doing laundry, assisting with veterinary prep work, taking photos of the animals, assisting customers in our store, working with children in our youth programs, completing administrative tasks, and so much more.

Bethany Apartments is looking for volunteers to be members of our Board. We encourage diversity and inclusion throughout our search for new members in an effort to better serve our residents and community. This opportunity would require about 10 hours a month.

Camp Kinder is an 8-week camp designed for youth with developmental disabilities that runs Monday through Friday 9:30am - 2:00pm. Clients spend time at the home site of a park located in Racine County along with field trips just about twice a week. Volunteers will be expected to help out Camp Counselors along with being a friend to clients. It's all about having fun!

The Racine Heritage Museum is looking for a courteous volunteer to work the front desk.  Our volunteers aid us in all areas of the museum, particularly in face to face interaction with museum visitors.

Reception desk volunteers are responsible for:

This position is excellent for volunteers of all ages, particularly those who are passionate about history, education, or just enjoy being a part of a group of hardworking individuals.  Training is provided for all volunteers.  Optional organizational and cataloging projects can be provided by the Archives and Curatorial departments for those who are interested.  This position requires an individual who can sit for long periods of time.  Please note, due to the historic nature of the building, RHM has been grandfathered out of ADA.  There are many stairs and no elevators or ramps.

Volunteers are need to participate in activities with seniors during the day and the evening. Activities can range from making music together to arts and crafts. Hours vary by activity.

We have an opportunity for a volunteer to man our door and take digital temperatures.  This could be any time day or evening between 8am - 8pm.  All training will be provided.  We ask that the volunteer be masked while on property.  

Our Dinosaur Discovery Volunteers provide exemplary customer service, assist with the interpretation of the Museum, and encourage inquiry and discussion of the exhibits and collections.  Responsibilities include greeting all visitors to the Museum, briefly explaining the Exhibits, interpreting and handling educational material.  Our Volunteers should be enthusiastic about Paleontology and Dinosaurs, should enjoy working with people of all ages, and have good communication skills.

The Racine Unified District’s WINGS Volunteer Program exists to enhance the educational experiences of students and assist teachers in the classroom. Annually, volunteers donate thousands of hours of service to benefit students. This positive interaction with volunteers often leads to improved self-esteem and academic improvement. In addition, volunteers can help provide a positive environment for students.

WINGS is designed to be as involved as your interests and time allow. Community members can support students and teachers in many ways. Volunteers can work directly with students as tutors, especially in the critical subjects of math, science and reading, or they can be mentors, working one-on-one with students.

We also have some opportunities at the information desk. This is a great opportunity for retired people or people just entering or re-entering the workforce. The SMP program offers volunteers an opportunity to make an important difference in their communities throughout Wisconsin.

Thank you for your interest in the Senior Medicare Patrol volunteer program. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in the overall success of the Wisconsin SMP. The information that you will impart as a volunteer will help seniors in your community to become better health care consumers. Together we can inform and empower Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers on how to protect, detect, and report Medicare fraud, abuses and errors. By volunteering, you will have an opportunity to use your talents, skills, and networking to provide outreach and education on Medicare fraud in your community. Volunteer involvement ranges from distributing materials, staffing a booth at conferences and outreach events, to giving group presentations. A description of these three activities is below.  

All positions require some training and an orientation. Training is provided both in-person and online. We want to provide you with the information and background you’ll need to be knowledgeable and capable of responding to questions from members of the community. The last two roles also require a background check.

Ascension Wisconsin is now accepting donations for personal protective equipment (PPE).

HOW CAN I MAKE A DONATION?
Individuals or companies interested in making a donation should contact our Foundation partners at AscensionWIFoundations@ascension.org. Once the donation is confirmed, arrangements will be made to pick up the donation and deliver it to the appropriate Ascension Wisconsin facility. 

WHAT SUPPLIES CAN BE DONATED? 
Supplies being requested for donation include: 

Please, do not drop-off PPE donations at Ascension Wisconsin facilities. Our Foundation partners will work directly with individuals and companies to assess each donation.
 
At this time, we cannot accept donations that are handmade (ex: sewn face masks). We are working with local and state health officials to determine if such items could be an option in the future. We will provide updates as we know more.

Certified pet therapy dogs spread joy, reduce anxiety and ease fears for patients and visitors alike. All therapy dogs must have their Animal-Assisted therapy certification in orer to participate in our volunteer program. right now the All Saints Foundation is providing assistance with the initial cost of therapy certification.  Dogs must be at least one year old and have resided with you for at least six weeks.

Do you enjoy meeting people and have a good customer service experience?  Help is needed on weekends, Saturday and Sunday's  9-Noon and Noon-3pm.  Volunnteers provide a welcoming environment through greeting patients and guests as they enter and depart our buildings. You will assist guests by providing patient room numbers, directions and escorting them to their destination.  Escorting may include transporting by wheelchair. Maintaining privacy is important

The North Pointe Learning Center is a new program offering lifelong learning and enrichment opportunities to the Racine community. We are looking for volunteer instructors who are willing to teach classes in an area of expertise or be a group leader in an area of interest.  Class participants may be people who are of retirement age but wish to stay active and continue to learn new skills and activities.  Topics are decided by the teacher or group leader and the opportunities are endless.  Classes or groups may be a one time session or a series of sessions. Topics may include arts and crafts, book clubs, classes on healthy living, culinary arts, meditation, flower arranging, travel, or anything that one has a passion about or wants to explore further with others.  For example, a class or group may be on books set in Wisconsin and be comprised of people who wish to continue to learn, read, and discuss.  Share your gifts or explore with others!

Programs for middle and high school students that help young people establish a solid foundation for life spiritually, mentally, and emotionally and positively impact their schools.

Outreach program for expectant and parenting teens and their families through intentional relationships with trained adults to support and equip with vital life, relationship, and parenting skills.

Program established to transform the lives of urban youth, their families, and the communities that they live in.

Seeks to engage young people in a variety of youth-serving institutions.  Adult leaders have the chance to sit one on one with these young people.

Provides student athletes guidance to build life skills and godly character needed to become role models in their schools and communities.

The YWCA Dress for Success program often is in need of HR professionals to assist clients with the creation or development of their resume and acting as a professional mentor.

There are several special events throughout the year.  Some events and programs are managed exclusively by community centers.  Volunteers may be needed to ensure the events and programs run smoothly and would work with the Center Supervisor in any capacity needed for center programming.

Becoming a Girl Scout Leader or Co-Leader is one of the most fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities. Girl Scouts has the mission of helping girls to become the leaders they were meant to be. This girl-led environment is packed full of amazing activities, events, service projects, and just plain fun. Troop meetings can be after school, evenings or weekends and is set by troop leader and parents. Time commitment is 3 to 6 hours per month. Job Description:

We are looking for a volunteer who has a high interest in community building and environmental stewardship with a focus on urban gardening.  The volunteer should have an interest in grant writing and fundraising efforts, but previous experience is not required.  The Grants and Fundraising Volunteer will be working to assist the Racine Urban Garden Network’s (RUGN) Grants and Fundraising Committee members by seeking grants and fundraising opportunities, completing grant applications in a timely manner, tracking grant applications and requirements, identifying suitable fundraising ideas, and developing fundraising events and strategies.

Would you drive a mile to save a life?

If you have a few free hours Monday through Friday during the day, you can help save a life! Volunteer drivers are needed for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program in and around the Racine County area of WI area. Drivers donate their time and vehicle to take cancer patients to treatment and back home again. They also provide encouragement and support.

Drivers are needed throughout the year. Volunteer drivers must be between the ages of 18-84, must have a current, valid driver's license, access to a safe reliable vehicle, a good driving record, and proof of automobile insurance. At least a 6 month or longer volunteer commitment is preferred. Volunteers need to have access to a computer with internet access to complete approximately two hours of online training courses to help prepare them for the volunteer role. The American Cancer Society maintains specific standards for driver responsibility. The standards help both the patient and the driver be comfortable with the program.

We are looking for a few more volunteers for our MargaretAnn's Program (MAP), which is a free monthly support group for grieving children and their families.  Volunteers attend a brief orientation with our Program Coordinator, submit to a background check and commit to one year of service.  The commitment includes one 2 hour support group per month at our office.  Volunteers are able to miss a month or two during their year as we understand that vacations and illness happen.  

Volunteers work with either the children or the adults and we try to respect their preference.  The adults' group is unstructured with peer led conversation and the children's group has structured activities designed by the Program Coordinator. 

We are looking for someone with a driver's license and a registered vehicle with insurance who is willing to pick up children and teens from the ages of 5 to 16 years old. Transportation for pickup would be in the Racine area on Friday nights. Pick-up times begin at 5:30 pm and drop off times begin at 7:45 PM. Background check and a completed volunteer application will be required. 

The Atrium and Bay Pointe is in need of a group or individuals to help get our grounds looking great after the long winter. Raking, pruning, weeding and general spring clean up is needed. These tasks can be done at your convenience and is a great project for school or church groups or by anyone that loves gardening. Call Julie at 262-639-1100 if interested.

Instrumentalists, vocalists and musical groups are invited to perform for residents of communities. Volunteer must be caring, compassionate, patient, comfortable with older adults and enjoy spending time with them. 1 hour as scheduled and available. Must be 14 years or older.

Do you love to bake? Join our residents to bake cookies, brownies and other great treats. Help with reading directions, measuring, stirring, etc. Must be 14 years or older.

The Center has numerous organic vegetable and flower gardens. Volunteers are needed March through December for planting, weeding, harvesting, and putting gardens to bed. Volunteers from all different backgrounds are welcome to volunteer, training will be provided. From this experience you are bound to know more about plants and food while having made an impact at the EJC. Volunteers need to be respectful, responsible and able to follow instructions given on site for each specific job. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old or accompanied by an adult if younger. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for working outdoors.

Fix wooden gates, replace barn boards, add railing for wooden stairs. Must be 20 years or older and have carpenter skills.

The Center is composed of 15 acres with 7 acres being a hay field. Volunteers are needed year round to collect fallen branches, shovel snow, move and spread soil/mulch, split wood, remove invasive species and rake, cut, and edge the yard. While some of these tasks are available for all ages, volunteers need to be 18 or over to operate the lawn mower, splitter, and trimmer. While volunteering you can take in the sights and sounds of nature. Volunteers need to be respectful, responsible and able to follow instruction given on site for each specific job. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old or accompanied by an adult if younger. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for working outdoors.

Habitat is looking for volunteers who are energetic and are interested in giving back to the community. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells new and slightly used building supplies, furniture and appliances to the public that have been donated to the ReStore. No experience is needed.

Volunteer hours would consist of picking up donations, cleaning items and appliances, pricing items, assisting customers in need and being a cashier. Volunteers usually work a three-hour shift. The ReStore is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-4pm and Saturday from 9am-4pm. We primarily need volunteers for our afternoon shifts. Volunteers must be 14 years or older.

Friendly visitors provide companionship to our hospice patients.  Spend time sharing stories, reading to them, listening to music, watching a favorite TV show or just sitting quietly.  It’s wonderful to spend time with patients to relieve family members or be there to let them know they’re not alone.  We’re looking for volunteers to provide regular visits and companionship to hospice patients in their own community.

We will work to match you with a patient based on your location, availability and background so this role is not only tailored to our patients' needs, but can fit into your schedule as well.

There is required training for this position to ensure that you are prepared and comfortable in the role.  The 14 hour in-service is a self-study that can be done on your own and at your own pace.

Wellness Activity volunteers provide assistance to staff hosting wellness activities in assisted living facilities. Spend time helping staff with group activities; set up, execute and clean up. Join us for bowling, beach day and special occasion/holiday crafts and activities. It’s wonderful to spend time with those in the assisted living including the memory care units to brighten their spirits with fun and engaging activities. We’re looking for volunteers to provide staff with regular assistance with community wellness activities.

We will work to match you with wellness activities based on your location, availability and background so this role is not only tailored to our activity schedule, but can fit into your schedule as well.

Every year we need friendly volunteers to monitor the Peeps Exhibition - a really fun community event where artists are inspired to create works of art out of marsmellow Peeps! We ask for poeple (15+) to hand out ballots to visitors (everyone gets one vote per visit), remind little ones not to "play" with the works, and to sometimes direct traffic flow. Lots of hours- volunteers are needed every day and hour that the museum is open- so great way for students to complete service hours or for folks who just like to get out of the house to have a fun evenbt to attend!
