Companions for Hospice Patients

Have a free hour or two?  Warm your heart and the hearts of our patients as a hospice volunteer! Not a day goes by when someone couldn’t benefit from a helping hand, a friendly voice, or a sincere smile from a hospice volunteer.  Aurora at Home Hospice is seeking volunteers to lend this type of support to patients and their families. 

Individuals donate some of their free time to hospice providing necessary support and comfort for the patients and their families. Volunteers are an invaluable, vital component of our hospice program. We simply couldn’t function without them. Patients enjoy the fresh company and the friendly support that volunteers are able to offer. Listening is one of the most important things a volunteer can do.

Often, during the course of an illness, the primary caregiver and other family members begin to feel the stress of the situation. Volunteers offer the caregivers an opportunity to take a breather while feeling comfortable knowing that the patient is in good hands.

Bereavement Volunteers play a pivotal role in providing comfort and empathy to individuals who are navigating challenges of grief. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact to offer support to individuals coping with grief.

 

Responsibilities: Place calls to patients home 6 months after their loss Providing families with a listening ear, and validating feelings Share information about grieving process and provide resources available. Assist in support groups, one-on-one grief support, and phone calls.

 

 We will accommodate your schedule and provide flexible hours. The Aurora at Home-Hospice provides flexible hands-on training.

Home Helpers – Hospice Volunteers

Have you ever thought of helping someone who is unable to leave their home, well now is your chance! You can make a difference in someone’s life today by giving a few hours of your time to help someone in need, just by offering to do some vacuuming, dusting, wash a few dishes or other tasks for a patient who is unable to do for themselves.

As a Hospice Flower Arrangement and Delivery Volunteer, you will play a vital role in bringing joy and comfort to our patients during their end-of-life journey. Your creative touch and compassionate spirit will contribute to the well-being of our patients and their families, providing them with moments of beauty and serenity.

 

You would arrange flowers Wednesdays from 11a-12p at our office in Kenosha (2707 15th Place, Kenosha). Once the arrangements are completed, you would be able to drop off the arrangements & visit with a hospice patient close to your home. We care for people throughout Racine & Kenosha counties, so we would find someone close & convenient for you!

We know these therapies are great way to relieve stress, pain and tension. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to have this pleasure due to their health.

There are numerous ways you can help as hospice volunteers. Some of these include companionship, playing games, reading and sitting with people in their home to provide a break for the family.

We are seeking compassionate individuals with certified therapy dogs to join our hospice care team and provide comfort, companionship, and emotional support to patients facing end-of-life challenges. As a Hospice Therapy Dog Volunteer, you and your furry companion will play a crucial role in enhancing the overall well-being of our patients.

 

Responsibilities:

Provide comfort and companionship to patients in hospice. Conduct regular visits to patients in hospice care. Ensure that your therapy dog is certified.
