Volunteer: Children's Vision Screening Opportunity - Monday, March 9th in Sturtevant

Join Prevent Blindness Wisconsin for a meaningful volunteer opportunity at a vision screening at a Sturtevant school on Monday, March 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00am. Volunteers will help identify children with potential vision problems and set them on the path to a lifetime of healthy vision.

Founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated volunteers, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin works to prevent blindness and preserve sight across Wisconsin communities. We envision a Wisconsin where everyone enjoys healthy vision at every stage of life, and we work toward this goal by providing free, direct sight-saving services—like vision screenings—throughout the state.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping us provide vision screenings at schools and childcare centers throughout Racine County, especially at locations that do not have the capacity to vision screen students on their own. No previous experience is required, and all necessary training will be provided by our staff.

For the safety of the students we screen, all volunteers are required to complete background check paperwork. If you are interested in volunteering, please register by Monday, March 2 to allow enough time for the background check process. After registering, you will receive the required paperwork, which takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. Once approved, you will receive all the details needed for the vision screening.

If you have any questions, please contact Breanna Reckamp, at breanna@pbwi.org or (414) 765-0505 ext. 108.

Volunteer: Children's Vision Screener

Become a Certified Children's Vision Screener! Help us identify children with potential vision problems and set them on the road to healthy vision through children's vision screenings in your community.

Founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated volunteers, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin's mission is to prevent blindness and preserve sight in Wisconsin communities. We envision a Wisconsin where everyone enjoys a lifetime of healthy vision and we work toward this goal by providing free, direct sight-saving services, such as vision screenings, throughout the state.

Volunteers help with vision screenings at schools and childcare centers throughout Racine County that otherwise do not have the capacity to screen the children at their schools and centers. All volunteers are required to attend a Prevent Blindness Wisconsin sponsored Children's Vision Screener Training. The training will go over how to vision screen school-age and preschool age children and the last step is to attend a volunteer orientation. The children’s vision screening certification is good for 3 years. No previous experience with health care or vision screenings is necessary. This is an opportunity for individual adults, teens and small groups (maximum size of 5).

Volunteers are required to complete and pass a background check and Children’s Vision Screener Training before volunteering. To sign up for our online training, please email Breanna at breanna@pbwi.org for the sign-up link.

Time commitment: Vision screenings typically take place on weekday mornings. Depending on classroom size, screenings take between 1 and 3 hours. Vision screenings start in September and go through May.

Please contact Breanna Reckamp, Director of Operations, at breanna@pbwi.org or (414) 765-0505 to learn more and to sign up for a vision screener training.
